Yaz & Yasmin Side Effects

Users of the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin may be at an increased risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) compared to patients taking other contraceptive products. Studies have shown that Yaz and Yasmin users are more likely to develop blood clots than patients taking other birth control pills, which could lead to an increased risk of DVTs.

Deep vein thrombosis is a condition caused by blood clots that form in the legs or other extremities. If these clots become loose, they could travel into the blood stream and lead to other serious conditions, including heart attack, stroke and pulmonary embolism.

According to a study published by the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Yaz and Yasmin users are twice as likely to suffer blood clots as patients taking another brand of birth control. Based on these findings, a panel of experts convened by the Food and Drug Administration called for Bayer, the manufacturer of the two drugs, to issue stronger warning labels about the blood clot risks associated with Yaz and Yasmin.

Thousands of Yaz and Yasmin patients have filed lawsuits against Bayer alleging that they were not properly warned about their risk of DVTs and other side effects. In spite of these health risks, neither Bayer nor the FDA have announced plans to recall Yaz or Yasmin.
